Emission-free fleet for Hochbahn: Use of fuel cell buses planned

From 2020 on, only emission-free buses will be purchased for the city of Hamburg, according to the requirement of the Hamburg Senate. In this context, the Hochbahn has made a clear statement: The use of hydrogen-powered fuel cell buses is an important part of the strategy to convert the Hamburg bus fleet to emission-free drives.

Daimler subsidiary NuCellSys becomes Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell GmbH

"Fuel cell technology is an integral part of our drive system strategy", says Professor Christian Mohrdieck, Head of Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell GmbH and thus responsible for fuel cell drive system development at Daimler AG. "Zero local CO2 emissions, long ranges and short refuelling times, plus a wide range of applications from cars to buses, other large commercial vehicles and not least also for stationary applications make the technology a futureproof alternative. By changing the company name we are sending a clear signal and emphasising the future relevance of fuel cell technology. We are also dovetailing more closely with Daimler AG."

The new filling station is on the grounds of Linde's own ‘Gas and More’ retail outlet in Industrieweg. It is one of the first filling stations to be built nationwide as part of the Clean Energy Partnership and with support from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). The Industrieweg H2 station received approximately €450,000 in funding from the National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP). The investor and owner is Linde; the hydrogen facility is operated by the joint venture H2 MOBILITY Deutschland.

The Clean Energy Partnership is one of the most important international projects to test hydrogen as a fuel. It revolves around the development of technical standards – from production to swift, safe fuelling to the operation of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
